New Product Year-End Review
There are always new products to use throughout the year. This year, I had the pleasure of using new trail cameras, solar panels, vanes, broadheads, and other unique products. I am happy to give you my personal opinion of each of the products along with other details. I hope you will consider looking at some of these products.
SpyPoint has been the camera of choice for Left In The Field Outdoors since 2018. Two new products introduced in 2024 grabbed my attention immediately: the Flex-M and the SPLB-10 solar panel. I couldn't wait to get the two products and use them together.
Flex-M
The Flex-M is the best cellular camera for under $80.00. The camera shoots video in 720p and showcases a 28-megapixel camera. The SpyPoint app made setting the camera up and adjusting my settings easy. The Flex-M has a 90-foot flash detection range and a 0.4-second trigger speed. The best feature of the camera is that it features a GPS, so you always know where your camera is. If someone steals your camera, you can use the GPS feature to help get the camera back.
SPLB-10 Solar Panel
Solar panels run all of my SPyPoint Cameras. I haven't purchased AA batteries in a few years. The new SPLB-10 solar panel is compact but powerful. The 5W lithium rechargeable solar panel keeps my cameras running all year round. The panel comes with a mounting arm and a strap. There are enough chords for all kinds of options. The panel retails for $59.99 on the SpyPoint website and is well worth each penny. I have been extremely pleased with these panels and how powerful they are.
Broadheads can be simple or complex. For years, I have used mechanical heads because I love the way they work and how they fly. In 2024, I was introduced to a new broadhead company called Trifecta Broadheads. Rob Schneider is the owner and creator of these devastating broadheads. The quality and design of each head bring maximum carnage to any game you are hunting. I was excited to give this Texas-based company a try for the 2024 season.
The Whitetail Killa Pop and Lock 100-grain head is a beast with a two-inch cutting diameter. The .032" thickness of the blades is unmatched in penetration and performance. The cut on the contact head makes the mechanical a 4-blade cut. I was anxious to send one of these broadheads through a target buck. I was lucky enough to get a thirty-five-yard shot on my #2 target buck, and the Whitetail Killa didn't disappoint. The deer didn't go far, and the entrance hole was massive. I was impressed by the results and look forward to using the Trifecta Broadheads again in 2025.
The best way to stay sharp in archery is with practice. Practice needs to be realistic so you can perform when the moment counts. The new Big Daddy Delta McKenzie buck takes this to a new level. The QuivAR app works with this whitetail target to give you an honest look at where your arrow is hitting and what vitals you are taking out. The target is lifesize, and the app makes it easy to see what your arrow will do when it impacts the deer. This is an excellent tool for practicing all year. The target is durable, and the arrows are easy to pull out. I highly recommend this target for outdoor practice that is lifelike.
Inventive Outdoors SCENT Relief is a new product I needed to try. I talked with the owner, Dean, at the Columbus Deer and Turkey Expo. I wanted to see what his product could do in a deer dripper. The SCENT Relief product uses human urine to create the deer scent. There are three types to purchase: whitetail doe, whitetail estrus, and whitetail tarsal. I had a lot of success mixing whitetail estrus and whitetail tarsal in my drippers this year. The deer liked the scent from the dripper and came back to hit the scrapes. I thought this was a brilliant way to use the products from Inventive Outdoors.
After one year of testing my gland mixture, I knew it was ready for others to use. The Head-Scratcher gland lure is a unique mixture that will drive bucks crazy. I begin using the gland lure mixture after bucks have shed their velvet. I use Head-Scratcher on all my mock scrapes to get an inventory of the deer on the properties I hunt. Hunters who purchased my gland lure sent me countless pictures and videos of deer working their mock scrapes. They were just as impressed as I was. Check out some of the deer that stopped by my mock scrapes to check out the Head-Scratcher gland lure.
The XOP X2 steps are a game-changer! These 26-oz steps are light and gripping like nothing I have seen. They are 17 inches long and have 10-inch steps at the top and bottom. The steps at the top and bottom have teeth that allow the use of aiders so you can go higher in the tree. You can purchase the steps individually or in sets of four for $179.99. The heavy-duty strap and the aggressive teeth on the back of the steps grip the tree tightly. The steps pack together easily with a side-locking grip. I couldn't believe hanging and taking down these steps was so easy.
Scent Thief cover spray, body wash, and laundry detergent are superior to anything I have used. The laundry detergent has a dirt scent and eliminates odors trapped in your hunting clothes. The body wash removes any human odor before I get dressed. Lastly, the field spray is powerful enough to fool the oldest whitetails. I saw more deer at close range this year than in years prior. The Scent Thief line of products helped me seal the deal on my #2 target buck this year. The buck was downwind of me for over ten minutes before he offered a thirty-five-yard shot. I use the field spray on my trail cameras as an extra layer of protection from bears.
The 2024 products I used all worked flawlessly. I will keep them around for 2025 and look forward to the same positive results. Please click on the hyperlinks to check out the products on your own. I am excited to see what these companies do to improve their amazing products. I can't wait for the ATA show to see what will be new.
