Closing In on Spring Turkey Season

Spring turkey hunting is in full swing in many states. Pennsylvania turkey hunters are counting down the days before they can chase Eastern Longbeards. Scouting PA Toms is important during April and using trail cameras can be a huge help.
Fly Down Areas
Putting a camera in an area where turkeys roost is a great idea. Often you will see turkeys leaving the roost in the morning and flying back up in the evening. Let the cameras do the work for you and see how often they roost in that area.
Strutting Zones
Another great spot to place trail cameras to scout spring turkeys is in strutting zones. These areas are wonderful for capturing videos of the Toms doing their thing. A strutting zone is a fantastic place to set up a decoy and wait for the Longbeards to come check out the decoy.
Hidden Areas
I like setting cameras up in hidden areas when turkeys use natural features to travel. Funnels are great areas to set up the camera and see when they are accessing the funnel. This can be deadly when the funnel connects a roosting area and a strutting area.

Open Fields
Agriculture fields are another place I set up cameras to scout for turkeys. Learning from past scouting seasons can make this an easy task. Hunting the fields you capture lots of intel from can make for exciting action.
Set Up and Hunt
Setting up between a roosting area and strutting area can create magical hunts that you will never forget. I have used this strategy numerous times to fill my PA tag. Check out the short hunt from a few years ago.
Scouting turkeys with trail cameras and cellular trail cameras can work in your favor. Get out now and set those cameras up and start scouting. It may be the piece of the puzzle you are missing.
